The journey to the top of your game can be extremely lonely in an oppressive system, especially when you have a few representations of success. Everyone wants to discuss mentorship and how valuable the experience is for the mentor and the mentee, but how do you find a mentor? And how do you know if they are a good one?

When you are in a mixed crowd of people that you don’t know, being safe seems impossible. When you are in a workshop where marginalized people are speaking, safe spaces might feel isolating especially if you are part of the majority group…I started to wonder, can safe spaces create change? If the communities we are trying to reach do not feel comfortable speaking, are we creating change in these spaces?
